Darlington MAG "Spring Thing"
18-19th April '97 Faverdale Hall, Darlington
A Report from Mark Graham, A daft git on a GPX600.
Originally the rally was going to be out in the countryside at the Cumby
Arms, Heighington, but due to there being a double booking with a cricket match
a change in venue had to be found.
... I can't think of a caption for this. Any ideas?
Fiendish Delights and few desperate souls turned up on the Friday despite
no entertainment but a pool table and a bar. However everyone seemed to be in a
party mood. Their drinking and dancing continued well into the next day, moving
onto the picnic tables and then into the tents. (Russ did you find Huey?)
Photographic proof that people did enjoy themselves
Can anyone tell
me who this woman is? Bet you can't guess.
On Saturday the rally started to get into full swing. During the afternoon
another bar was created, tombola stall and the usual MAG stall - still trying to
sell those 1993 "Stormin' The Castle" T shirts, and of course lots of
food stalls.
...how to make friends and influence people...
who is this scruffy
bugger?
There was a bike show and several prizes awarded,
Come the evening the excitement moved to the marquee where the bands where
to play, First on where "Smile Society." Stage nerves may have led the
lead singer to have one to many but the drummer was brilliant and they still
managed to give a reasonable show.
This is Headzup.
The guitarist is playing with a drill - perhaps
he started as a drummer. The singer appears to be measuring the guitarist with
his Long Stick Device ...
Headlining where a rock band "called Headzup" who where
absolutely great. They played several of their own songs plus an excellent
version of "Kids in America" (Kim Wilde) that had everyone dancing
like maniacs, a band to catch before they get big.
Prating about and beer
guzzling continued till the sun came up.
Conclusion a good do marred
slightly by the rain. I for one am looking forward to the next Spring Thing.
Post Script
£150 for MAG funds (so get the beers in...)
Furtherest distance travelled award - some guy from Thirsk, all of 30
miles!
... how sad ...
