Giddy's 49er

Saturday 12th April

This is the long awaited first weekend away, and it's a boys do. The main culprits gather at the railway at high noon in blazing sunshine; Giddy, Alister, Andy B, Rob, Smugger and me.

The ride out of town is rather un-sedate and from the start of the A66/M1 it gets silly. All the sports bikes bugger off and I see neither sight nor sign of them till Leyburn, where after a short break, we all take off for Hawes and a well deserved coffee break.

Next is the silly bit, Hawes to Sedburgh to Kendal. We're all very sorry and apologise unreservedly.

Kendel - All guilty as charged.

The Kirkstone pass lets us down due to huge traffic jams - inconsiderate bastards - so we all kinda pootle our way to Patterdale before indulging in a little comedy navigation till we find the campsite at the end of a dirt track, although to call it a dirt track is to do an injustice to dirt tracks everywhere.

Still we're soon all there and settled down, the evening is warm and all is quiet save the occasional tweet of wildlife or howl of engine. We chill out for an hour or two, less in Smugger's case as the DT's start to set in, and settle into that warm glow generated by the first do of the year.

The view from the campsite - not that any of these reprobates gave it any attention.

Then it's off on the long walk to the pub for tea and beer where we are shortly joined by Dav, Sue and Haggis, then a little later by Roy. Everybody gets drunk, Giddy most of all (which is only right and proper) leading to some interesting behaviour on the walk back, the highlights been:-

But all good things must have an end and all hangovers a beginning...

And below a few more pictures for you.
