Honda CB250 - The Superdream
Owner - Steve Harrison
Details - 250cc 2cyl 4 stroke, ancient stuff,
slow in it's day and slow now. Everybody should have one. Once.
Ohmygod it's a wetdream ...
After passing my test in '93 I needed a bike for very little money. A friend
of a friend new a guy etc. One hundred quid later I was the proud owner of a 250
Superdream that ran and had a logbook, wow, it was legal.
Or it was once I
had replaced the ignition barrel, removed the hotwire switch, new speedo cable,
added some indicators and replaced the rusting swingarm. About £50 all in.
The
mileage was anybodies guess but it ran and it was mine. Top speed? 65mph,
although I did once see 85mph on a long straight downhill - very scary. Brakes
where an optional extra I guess, despite bleeding, stripping, new pads and
pleading the braking remained crap. Fortunately the bike didn't go fast enough
to need serious braking and provided you used the rear as well thing where
acceptable - wouldn't have fancied an emergency stop though.
I've still got fond memories of this bike, blatting around the Dales, taking the backroads to Hull at weekend to see my then girlfriend. I remember getting waved at for the first time by another biker. I was accepted and hooked.
